The Nitrogen Cycle in Action!

Here are some links I recommend:

We started our plants from seeds. We began with Teddy Bear Sunflowers, Cherry Tomatoes, Early Girl tomatoes, Tithonia, and Yellow Marigolds. We planted them in the garden on March 22nd. We hope to have some harvest by the end of the school year.
These are some pictures of the VIP's planting their seeds for the first time! It was a beautiful day and what fun we had! Close images of faces have been blurred to protect privacy!

Below you can see the nitrogen cycle in action! We laid dark mulch down for four reasons:

1. to retain moisture in the hot Texas sun!

2. to prevent weeds (the mulch prevents the Sun's energy from penetrating the topsoil, where he weeds germinate!)

3. to add needed nutrients from the decomposition process!

4. it's decorative and makes the garden look neat!

We placed a wind chime and a windsock to detract small animals from eating our harvest! They think it is a person moving and making noises.
During our carnival Mr. Kline had a "hay ride". Instead of the We put the bails around the perimeter to help keep the humidity up! Because it retains so much water it keeps the air moist. You can see the results have been great!
The V.I.P. Tree

Some of the kids decided to "adopt a tree" near the garden. Using extra mulch, they layered it around the base in a circle to help retain water for the roots during dry times. The rocks are only decoration. Great job guys!
